Initiatives the JFNA Supports...

Torahs for Our Troops

The Jewish Federations of North America support "Torahs for Our Troops," a project of the JWB Jewish Chaplains Council, which is a service of the Jewish Community Centers Association of North America. Jewish military chaplains are assigned to visit the more than 10,000 Jewish Americans on active duty, to provide a wide range of services including helping them observe Shabbat and the Jewish holidays. JWB has commissioned the writing of six small, lightweight and fully kosher Torah scrolls to accompany the chaplains into the combat theater.

Haiti Relief

To meet emergency needs in Haiti the Jewish Federations of North America, in partnership with the JDC, is funding the Israel Defense Forces field hospital, the first portable medical facility operational in Haiti. The hospital includes 120 personnel: physicians, surgeons, obstetricians, nurses, and medical equipment, such as infant incubators and orthopedic devices.

Breast Cancer Education

The Federation’s Washington office is spearheading advocacy of the EARLY ACT. This legislation directs the Centers of Disease Control to develop and implement a national educational campaign about the threat that breast cancer poses to young women of all ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
